Lessons I Teach Myself
|
A friend had told me today that I seem GROUNDED lately.
I nodded in agreement. 'Yes, yes I am grounded right now.' For the first time in my life, I know what the feeling of having my feet rooted on the ground is like. GROUNDED (adjective) *Well balanced and sensible. This word, and the word it stems from (ground), have other definitions of course, but this one seems the most fitting for my current experience. 'Well balanced' - because I have two feet equally standing giving me stability to stand tall, and 'sensible' - because the feeling of grounding my feet is literally a sensation. It is felt in the body. So how am I Finding my footing during a global pandemic!?!? I think it's actually because of the panic and chaos in the air that I am actively looking to hold on to something. The ground is the nearest and dearest, so why NOT start there? My favorite yoga pose is the most simple one: Mountain Pose. You stand on both feet, hip distance apart, Feel your WHOLE feet: the heels, toes, and everything in between, keep your arms to your side, and.....breathe. Give it a try, and you may soon start feeling well balanced and sensible, like a mountain standing tall in its glory and its calm.
