EMPATHY
(noun) *The ability to understand share the feelings of another. The word originated from Greek, from the word Empatheia which means Em = In and Pathos = Feeling. So in a nutshell, empathy is being IN FEELING. Sounds so simple, and it IS simple, but simple doesn't equate to easy. When one lives in this world, one sometimes guards themselves so much - that being in the feeling of another seems out of reach. Seems almost like a boundary crossed. It is frightening. Vulnerable. In a way, it is intimate. I exercise the gift of empathy daily. I believe that's the heartistic work of the actor: To empathize with a character, and thus to echo a human experience.
