My 'story mentor' aka teacher (but hey 'story mentor' sure has a nice ring to it...) coined this following mantra:
'Subtle Yet Total.' I think my teacher talked about being subtle yet total in our work as storytellers, but I took it as a lesson for life. How can I be both subtle and total when I birth a new story, when I rewrite endlessly, when I lead others to a richer creative life, when I confront a loved one that I had a dispute with, when I ask for help or even just buy a car, make my way in the world. Society forces us to come to terms with both our rebellious nature and our conforming nature. Whatever you are - be subtle yet total.
