Dear Conspiracy Theorist,
I know that labeling you a 'conspiracy theorist' alone makes me part of the problem, part of the conspiracy against your belief; A belief you perceive as 'truth.' You are WOKE, I know. And you are dying for me to 'wake up' as well. Maybe you and I were dear friends, or lovers. Maybe you are my father, my uncle, my sister. Maybe you are someone I grew up with, and thought the world of, maybe you are a role model I've looked up to. Maybe you changed my life, on more than one occasion. I give you all the gratitude, and appreciation in the world for whatever it was that we shared. But now, oh my dear conspiracy theorist person-in-my-life, you've fallen into some deep depth of uncertainty, and you are seeking some solid grounds to hold on to. Hey, I feel ya! These are tricky times. Tragic times. Challenging times. I personally have chosen the path of meditation, conversations, and creative writing to deal with it all, but you, my friend, have chosen to believe that someone out there, 'they' are trying to control you. That it's 5G. That it's Bill Gates. That it's the government. That it's China. That it's a hoax. That THEY are trying to control the population with vaccination that would put a chip in your brain. That the virus was bio-weapon, made in a lab. That it doesn't even exist. That the numbers are higher than they really are. That the numbers are lower than they really are. A conspiracy is about having an answer. Nobody likes to be told 'I don't know'. So I get it, friend, you simply want an answer. And one that gives a cause equally fitting to the effect of this global pandemic seems logical. I get it. It's how our brains are formed: we seek for patterns and loooooove to connect the dots to make sense of things. We see things where they are NOT all the time! Be it Jesus in a piece of toast, or ufo's at night or ghosts in the ceiling. We are storytellers, and we have had YEARS of experience creating stories and believing in them. That's how we build societies! That's how we create! It's a superpower of ours, really. But clearly, it has some, um, flaws. Don't get me wrong, friend - I want an answer too. But I seek it in myself, in my loved ones, in critical thinking that is confirming to me that most of those stories are unfounded, and blown out of proportions to fit a narrative we rather have than the current one: that we are in the midst of a global health challenge, and we don't have all the answers yet. So instead of rushing to conclusions and forcing them down my throat....why don't we relish in the only thing we know for sure: WE. DON'T. KNOW. Sincerely, Your friend that used to be totally into conspiracy theories (free Masons running the world is an old favorite of mine), but prefers believing in the story of 'zen' now. Join me! Wake up! ;)
