In no particular order, here are my top ways to get out of a funk:
*MUSIC. Sit back, chill out, and play your favorite tunes. Ideally the cosy tunes that would comfort you on a winter day. It is Simon & Garfunkel? Mazzy Star? Joni Mitchell? For me it's all of the above. *BREAK YOUR ROUTINE. Full disclosure: This only applies if you are a rigid routine lover like I am. Basically, this is about being flexible, malleable and responding to change. It can be a mood lifter or even if it would take you on a little guilty spin... it can go extra miles in helping you get out of a funk. *TEQUILA. You can make it vodka or weed if those are your substances of choice, or make it a cozy hot chocolate if you are sober. And heck, make it a matcha oat latte if you're vegan. Point is - have something relaxing that can take some of the pressure off. Not advocating to get out of control here... just take the edge off with some help. *CALL A FRIEND This should be an obvious winner on any list of 'how to get out of a funk'. If you are lucky to have that good, really good, practically bestie type of a friend... call them up. Message them. Facetime them. Send an emoji if that's all you can do. But REACH OUT to them. Being less alone when in a funk... can for sure get one out of a funk. *BAKING This may be just me, but there's something in baking... it is almost a ritual of sorts. The Baking starts with creating and following steps, but continues with some intuitive making & tasting and ends with a surprise. You never know what your baked good will be, and that alone can prep you to be in a more of a 'beginner's mind' mindset and get out of any funk. Plus, it's tasty. *PLAYING What was your favorite game as a child? Were you a puzzler, like me? Into board games? Video games? Maybe crossword puzzles are your thing? Or suduku on your phone? Whatever game it may be... take a minute out of your day, and PLAY. Turn back to your inner child - the innocent, laughing happy child that was only focused on the task at hand: playing his/her toy in the playground. Being in a moment like a child is a cure-all for complex 'adult' type emotions. Game on. *STOP IT. Just stop it. Enough. Snap out of it. Kiss that funk goodbye and be done with it. It doesn't matter anyways. We're all ending in ashes or in the ground so your funk isn't going to make any difference then. TO ANYONE. But hey, I know that's hard to see when one is IN a funk. Impossible to see the sky when one's in the deep water, right? But when you get up to the top layer of the ocean... high enough to notice the blurry light from above... remember that it's all INVENTED, and maybe then you could have a laugh about it all. And laughing.... yeah, that's my go to to get out of a funk ALWAYS.
